"Trix" von Spectra Sports (USA)

    Hey Leute,

I recently had the opportunity to fly the Spectra Trix in Chicago, with
    it\\\'s creator.... Scott Augenbaugh.

Scott is a great guy, and is truly the most radical flyer I have ever
seen. But this is about his kite, the Trix.

    Wingspan: 7\\\'6
    Height: 3\\\'3
    Weight: 9oz.
    Frame: 2100 Carbon Pultrude
    Sail: 1/2oz. Icarex... 16 panels.
    Colors: Pink/Teal/White/Black
Wind Range: 3-15 - Measured with Skywatch @ two differnet locations.
    Cost: about $160

The greatest thing about my first experience with this kite was that I was
flying it with Scott himself. Scott is a great guy, very funny, and really
understands how to communicate his imputs to the kite to you. The Trix is
a good looking kite. I would prefer to have different colors, but Scott
told me that the colors that were in stock when they made the last
prototype were the colors they eventually used. The kite has is very quick
to respond to imput. It feels like a very stable 6\\\' kite. I can describe
this kite with one word.... Snap. This kite snaps around, changing
direction with the slightest of movement. It has good pull, and buzzes
around like a pair of pissed off Wasps. Snap stalls, Kills, Pancakes,
Ground Turtles and Axles are all an afterthought with this kite. It reacts
so fast, that it make you look great if you have a fair flying technique.
The Trix is not to sensitive to bridle adjustment, but I flet the kite
flew the best when set at the flattest setting (Blue Mark). It takes off
smoothly, and moves through the sky very quickly. The sail is very tight,
and the kite utilizes a sail batten that attaches to the leading edge on
    the back side... very neat.
The fit and finish are basic Spectra, half ass. While Spectra has great
designs, you wish that they would spend a little time \\\"Cleaning up\\\" the
loose ends. Re-enforcement patches are not to clean, the bridle is mounted
on the \\\"t\\\" in a bizare way, the connectors and \\\"t\\\" are overkill and the
standoffs utilize fittings that don\\\'t stay in place. The back of the kite
is littered with standoffs that go through the sail.
Scott had a different version of this kite called the Pro. This model had
a different colored sail, and was framed in SkyShark\\\'s Response tapered
rods. Scott told me that this model was only available in Japan (Please
call Spectra and bitch about this.... even Scott thought that was pretty
lame), and this is the kite you want to have. The fit and finish were no
better, but the Response rods are the hottest things I have ever seen.
Great strength, mild flex.. and the quality of Skyshark.
I got this kite home to my favorite beach, greeted with a 3-6 mph wind and
the many new tricks shown to me by the master himself. Now that I had the
time, I installed a cheater line on the bottom of the kite, the bridle has
a habit of getting wrapped aroung the stanoffs on the back of the kite. I
flew this thing for 3 hours, and I think is is the hottest freestyle kite
on the market. Coin tosses, Tip stabs, axle launches, side kills, all of
the great moves I like are so easy!!! This kite changes direction not only
left to right, but front to back very quickly. Scott showed me a great way
to pancake the kite while flying directly in the power of the wind, and
with a hard tug, the kite drops back the nose and pops back into flying
    mode.
By this kite if you want somthing the reacts as fast as your imagination.
Explore it, toss it, crank it... it will take it all. I will be \\\"cleaning
up\\\" mine and have started the search for stronger/lighter tapered rods.
This kite is hot... and is a direct extension of Mr. Augenbaugh himself.
    Keep one in your bag.

    Heiko

    Heiko,

hab inzwischen gefunden, DRAMA 2/95 Seite 79
